Gyeongbokgung palace, after dark and by starlight

Book ↗

This is a guided night walk through the northern part of Gyeongbokgung palace, built around the food and daily life of the Joseon royal court. A guide leads you through the palace grounds after the gates close to day visitors, so you see courtyards and pavilions lit for the evening rather than in daytime crowds.

The route runs from Gyejodang through the Oe-sojubang (the palace's outer kitchen), Jagyeongjeon, Jipokjae and Palujeong, Geoncheonggung and Hyangwonjeong. At the Oe-sojubang you're served a boxed reinterpretation of the royal 12-dish table, called dosyuk. This year's programme adds a changgeuk (Korean traditional opera) performance at Jipokjae, once King Gojong's study, telling a story about the king in the space where he once read. The walk ends at the Hyangwonjeong pond, where you look out over the water toward the lit-up palace at night.

Two sessions run each day the programme is on: 6:20pm to 8:10pm, and 7:30pm to 9:30pm. Admission is 60,000 won per person. The route may change depending on conditions on the day. Check the link for tickets and exact dates within the run.
