Seoul Market Fair: traditional market by day, open-air dining by night

Seoul's traditional market fair is back by Cheonggyecheon after seven years; the pandemic had stopped it. The Seoul Market Fair (서울마켓페어) brings about 40 vendors from markets and shopping streets, including Namdaemun, Baengnyeon and Daejo markets, Sangbong Meokja Alley and Sharosu-gil.

By day, browse their goods and try a craft: six hands-on programmes for families and foreign visitors include making a mother-of-pearl phone grip and hand mirror, or a K-food keyring. A traditional performance stage is planned too.

In the evening it becomes a night food market, with 160 seats at 40 tables set out on Cheonggyecheon-ro, which is partly closed to cars for the whole fair. Look for tteokbokki, dakgangjeong, tacos and kebabs, plus seasoned laver, native honey, crafts and household goods.

The 24th has fusion gugak and traditional performance; the 25th, mask dance, samulnori and K-pop, with a live moonlight DJ show from 7pm.
