선운각
Built in 1967 by Hyundai Group founder Chung Ju-yung, Seonwoongak is one of the largest private hanok (traditional Korean houses) in Seoul outside of royal palaces. Until the 1980s, it was one of Seoul's three great yojeong, elite dining establishments that doubled as backrooms for political dealings, alongside Samcheonggak and Daewongak. Reopened to the public in 2021 as a hanok cafe and wedding venue, it sits beside Ui-dong Valley with Bukhansan's rocky peaks as its backdrop. The spacious courtyard features aged ginkgo trees that carpet the ground in gold each autumn. Inside, guests remove their shoes to sit on traditional wooden floors adorned with ilwol-obongdo folding screens and small soban tables. The rooftop deck offers Bukhansan's ridgeline close enough to touch. Featured as the American Legation in the drama Mr. Sunshine, and as filming locations for Itaewon Class and The World of the Married, Seonwoongak carries over half a century of history beneath its stone walls and tiled roof.
